Long Live your Locks: 6 Ways to Keep Hair Healthy

Our hair goes through a beating: whether that’s from the weather, styling or products. Healthy hair can easily become brittle, dry and damaged. But not all is lost! Read on for six easy ways to get hair looking in tip-top shape.

1. It all starts with nutrition

A balanced diet cures all. Eating right can repair strands and grow healthier hair. Stronger locks will be more resilient, leading to fewer split ends.

Plenty of fruits, vegetables, proteins and healthy fats will help fortify hair making it shiny and full-bodied.

Consult your doctor for supplements or treatment options if your hair issues are more severe, such as with hair loss or thinning.

2. Step away from the heat!

Sometimes the best thing to do is give your head a break. Don’t overdo it with heat styling or even drying your hair every day. Let some days in the week be heat free.

If you can’t put down the styler, compromise with styling strategic pieces to frame your face rather than your whole head.

3. Learn to use your heat tools wisely.

Dry your hair with damp, not wet, hair. Wring hair before drying and keep the nozzle a few inches away from your scalp. Keep the dryer moving rather than concentrating on one spot for too long to minimize heat damage.

Always use a hair protectant before using a hair styler. Work in manageable sections when styling so you’re only going through sections once instead of in multiple passes.

4. Style smarter

Updos and braids shouldn’t give you a headache. Refrain from styling your hair too tightly as it can lead to hair loss and weaken hair.

Fasten your hair with something that won’t snag like a scrunchie or with our snagless hair ties. Traditional hair ties can cause you to pull your hair into a too-tight ponytail and leaves you at risk of pulling out a few strands when you take it off.

5. Use products to support healthy hair.

Damaged hair would benefit from a good hair mask, such as Briogio’s Don’t Despair, Repair! mask, which will add some much needed moisture. Use it as a weekly treatment.

Tools can make or break the condition of your hair. For hair dryers and stylers, find ones that are comfortable to hold and have multiple heat and speed settings. A hair dryer should also have a few attachments, such as a diffuser, so you can dry and style your hair for curls and straight styles. Hair stylers should have a decent temperature range, such as our Lunata cordless hair styler, to allow you to create the looks you want without scorching your hair. 6. Chop it off!

When all else fails, cut it off! Trimming off damaged ends immediately improves your appearance and saves you from fighting a losing battle. And remember: hair grows back!
